Return to the the Metaverse

Under Construction-- I am moving OptiKit to the Metaverse. The Code Foundry: OptiKit Tools

Optikit is a free multi-platform toolkit written by Morgan McGuire.Source code is provided under a generous license so that you can compile these tools for other environments or use the code in your own free or commercial applications.

For each program, the SOURCE button will download the source code (in ANSI C). The BINARY button will lead you to a directory where you can get executable programs for many popular operating systems and machines. You may need to download some data files if specified. The DOCS button will download the manual or helpfile for the program (in plain text).

WHAT?
If you find this all very confusing and just want to get the whole OptiKit to run on your computer, there is a simple method.

  1. Follow the link at the end of this sentence, download all of the files you see listed (this is the documentation for the programs), then press "back" on your browser to return to this page.SOURCE and DOCUMENTATION

  2. Select your computer type from the following list, then download all of the files you see listed.
    PC, Macintosh,SGI, Sun, DEC

AFS and MIT Athena Users
If you have an account on MIT's Athena network, or your institution uses AFS (Andrew File System), you can run theprograms without installing them. You will need to add the following codeto the end of your .cshrc file. For MIT users, add this code to the .cshrc.mine file(Type emacs ~/.cshrc.mine at the athena% prompt):

# BEGIN OPTIKIT
set optikitpath=/afs/athena.mit.edu/user/m/o/morganm/optikit
source $optikitpath\/.optikitrc.$hosttype
source $optikitpath\/.optikitrc
# END OPTIKIT
Win32 Users
You must download CYGWIN.DLL to get the binaries (.exe files) to work. Put this file in the same directory as the .exe files you download.

OPTIKALC
OptiKalc (ok) is an advanced natural notation calculator. It runs in both command line (for operating systems with command lines) and interactive mode. OK supports double precision floating point complex number matrices. Provided operators include algebraic (scalar, matrix), trigonometric, logical, fft, simple graphing.
